audit logs number do not match,

Dear All,

We are facing issue with Symantec Messaging Gateway’s audit logs, we generating three types of logs,

  • first one is total number of email messages by selecting domain as recipient and total number of email are 4,066

 

 

 

  • Second report is normal delivered emails  

Recipient is Domain.com Option filter is Action takenOption filter value is message delivered normally .

Total number is 3,508

 

 

 

  • Third log is deleted messages
  • Recipient is Domain.com àOption filter is Action takenàOption filter value is Deleted messages

Total deleted messages are 2.841

 

 

 

The issue is deleted email and normally delivered emails should be equal to total emails orless thane total emails. But in this case numbers are not equal.

 

Kindly guide me how can we get this ,,,

Hi all,

I'm the admin for a network of about 40 computers in a Bio company. At the 6th of June 2013 we started having problems emailing some of our suppliers and checked the common 100+ blacklists and we were/are not listed. In discussions with our ISP support people, I found out that the email address where we couldn't send mail to where using Symantec product. We found out that we got listed on Symantec's blacklist. I also imagine some of our clients may use that same product. I requested de-listing using the http://ipremoval.sms.symantec.com/lookup/" form and got removed. Next day we got re-listed, and I requested de-listening again... I've checked our logs; we are not infected with anything. Our gateway will only accept port 25 mail from our MS Exchange server. The exchange server only accepts incoming port 25 mail from our spam firewall, and only accepts outgoing mail (destined for the internet) from domain-authenticated computers/users running outlook. It does not accept regular pop/smtp client connections. We do not have an open relay, and we do not send bulk mail. Our email volume is very low. The ip address in question is 81.218.134.114 and has the proper forward and reverse dns records. I checked the dns using a few web-based diagnostics, and all checks out fine. I did the same for the smtp side and it's all good too..

I haven't kept track of the number of times I've had to request de-listing, but it is in excess of 20 times and this problem needs to be resolved

I did read the entire faq and in addition some other posts in the forum. My problem is that none of these things seem to apply in this case. As far as I can see we are properly configured and are not breaking any rules...

I would like to know what is causing us to keep getting listed on only this one blacklist. I cannot seem to get a response from Symantec..

Please respond to my query. I've tried everything I can think of to find the problem, and I cannot fix it if no-one at Symantec is willing to reply to my inquiries.

Relay emails to different external hosts

Hello,

I recently came up with a demand to relay emails to external hosts. To become clearer, here's what i need.

 

We have 3 sites A(Primary site),B,C. Lets assume that there is no site-to-site vpn connection.

We have one domain, @mydomain.com.

What we want to do is, when an email arrives to the messaging gateway at site A, to check where the recipient is located (site B,C) and forward it there, instead of delivering it to site A.

Additional info.

For the time being all 3 sites have a vpn connection. All 3 have Exchange 2010 which is configured to distribite the email to each site (but that happens after it is delivered to site A, the exchange on site A takes care of the distribution). We are having problems with the vpn site-to-site connection so we are trying to find an other way around it. All users are under the @mydomain.com (no @asite.mydomain.com etc exists, and it is something we would like to avoid)

The last 3 weeks, we have more than 5 times spams coming into our email system.

Tech Support said our Messaging Gateway is running the best it can be with the latest software 10.0.2-4.

He also said there is a new wave of spam coming in. So everyone will get more spam than before, not until Symantec can develop a new rules for the new SPAM.

Is anyone seeing this SPAM increase or just me?

I got beat up everyday from users to Exccutives. A lot of users and Execs said they got no spam in their gmail, hotmail or yahoo why can't we stop it. The topic of outsoucing email comes up again.

 

Personal good/bad senders

I am running VMs on version 10.0.2-4, I updated from 10.0.1-2 to a few weeks ago.  Since then my end users are not able to add good/bad senders in their personal quarantine.  Create personal Good and Bad Senders lists is enabled under my default policy.  Thanks, Frank.

Hi,

We have installed two scanner and one control center. all of sudden these scanner and control center hanged , and not accisble even via Putty and direct console.

we reboot machines and after this all are working fine,,,,,,,

i want to know , any symantec recommended produre to identify and resolve issue other than reboot..

When someone mistake and send an email like: Nir@gmaik.com (instead of gmail.com)

He should automatically get NDR message from the brightmail.

Upgrading from 10.0.1-2 to 10.0.2-4 take too long

I need a solution

I'm try to upgrade Symantec Brightmail 8340 to version 10.0.2-4. The software already finished download. When I installed, it take very long time to finished. In my case it take one day but still the installation are not finished. I have to reboot it to stop the installation. Anybody have experience upgrading to version 10.0.2-4? How long it take for you to installed it. Can anyone give a advice if there something i need to do first to speed up the installation?

Hi,

we are running two Symantec Email Gateways + one control center Version 10.0.1-2. I was requested to enable TLS encrypted SMTP connection to one our external partners.

So the communication is between our Scanners and an External MTA.

Is there any official guide to fullfill this?

Or can anybody explain me the steps which are necessary.

Good day, I have these errors crop up every now and then and dont know if it is serious or if it can be disabled. Can anyone assist? 1) Article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... Actual error in host logs: avoop: a connection to the avoop server could not be established (#13019) 2) Article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... Actual error in host logs: DNS TXT query for "139.72.120.178.zodiac.brightmail.com" failed unexpectedly... with different destination addresses. The server is updating regularly with no major problems. The server has all relevant ports open to the internet as per configuration documentation (Problem with zodiac.brightmail.com server maybe? Thanks!

When I try to use another virtual appliance of Messaging Gateway (clone of the original), this error don't let me change the inbound IP address. The original appliance its down and I have a clone and I want to use it...

This IP is used by Directory Data Service. Please modify LDAP NIC bindings of Directory Data Service to not use this IP before making this change.

Even support doesn't know about this...

Hi everybody!

 

Symantec Messaging Gateway classifying the domain to our client as suspicious or spam and I would like to configure it as a trusted domain, how do this?

Currently I have to be "approving" the emails manually.
