SMG relays mail to our lotus notes server. Found that when Authenticated username is username_unavailable, lotus notes server rejects the email. I would like to know more about the Authenticated username. How does SMG come up with it? Is there material out there about it. Thanks to help!!

Hi guys!

We have a new server HPE Proliant DL360 Gen10 and I'm trying to install Messaging Gateway 10.6.4-3 on it, the problem is that the installation fails because it doesn't found the hard disk.

I've configure the disks on RAID 1 and everything with the array seems to be ok. Someone has an idea why the SMG doesn't found the disk?

We have a SMG appliance with disk failure, Dell will send a new disk but I need to know how to rebuild the RAID without loosing the S.O.

Im running Symantec messaging gateway as an appliance and would like to know how to implement email message encryption.
Can someone point me in the right direction what i need and how to set it up.

In symantec messaging gateway --> settings --> content encryption there is a link "click here to learn more" pointing nowhere.

We have implemented Symantec Gateway 10.6.5 but we are failing to connect to OWA via public IP. Internally, I am able to connect to MS exchange, but from outside I am landing in MGS. Is there something that I have missed?

I would like to have a rule that blocks emails from being send if they contain social security numbers. The problem is that I need that rule to handle swedish social security numbers, how can I proceed?

When I filtered the message audit logs for Sender with email address, I got the followings:

Verdict: Bounce attack signature present, Content Filtering violation: 25. Insert annotation: Anti-virus - 31MAR11-1600

Action: Add annotation, Bounce attack signature added

What does above information mean? I'm not sure...please help

I have a question regarding email domains address rewrite

I have three internal email domains:

AAA domain

BBB domain

CCC domain

each domain has separate Active Directory (or AD Global Catalog)

on SMG I need to rewrite all three email domain addresses to AAA (inbound/outbound). So from Internet all users have email domain AAA. How can I do it?

I understand how to rewrite 1:1 email domains but not 1:N

During SMTP STARTTLS and HTTPS TLS negotiation the SMG appliance presents a certificate chain.
The presented certificate chain also includes the root anchor certificate which serves no purpose and is increasing the TLS handshake latency.

RFC5246 states:

"Because certificate validation requires that root keys be distributed independently, the self-signed certificate that specifies the root certificate authority MAY be omitted from the chain, under the assumption that the remote end must already possess it in order to validate it in any case."

So while it seems not to be an issue to include the root certificate according to RFC5246, the SMG appliance could reduce TLS handshake latency by omitting it.

I would like to hear your thoughts on that issue:

Just sharing,

It appears that there is a bug in the advanced outbound smtp rate control. This feature allows relay of outbound mail for specific recipients per minute or hour.

Well the issue is: if you want unlimited rate control, you would put a zero (0). BUT if let's say you wanted 100,000 you can't. The box only allows 99,999.

Just sharing. Maybe they can fix this in 10.6.6-1

Hello,

We need to configure SMTP authentication for our external customers on our SMG appliance.

The SMG interfaces are:

Inbound: 192.168.1.1 -> 25
Outbount: 192.168.2.1 -> 25

The documentation says:

"You must use an IP address/port combination for SMTP authentication that is different from both your inbound and outbound IP address/port combinations."

So, is it possible to define this interface on the authentication Tab: 192.168.1.1 -> 587 ?
It is not the same combination than the inbound interface, the port is different, right?

Or, do we need to add virtual IP to do this?

In this case, shoud we add a VIP on inbound or outbound interface ?

(using TLS with cipher yyyyy (256/256 bits))
(Client did not present a certificate)
by [my BMG box] (Symantec Messaging Gateway) with SMTP id XX.XX.XXXXX.XXXXXXXX;

Please let me know if the above warnings from the headers of mail can cause mails going to spam folder in gmail.

Recently RFP has been floated. Knew the Pre-working is not on Symantec's product, but still need to beat the competitor. I have been doing RnD for the past 48 hours to complete the compliance. I still need to put the reference on below points ,

1) Outbound email encryption through policy on the unit or user specified with a Microsoft Outlook add-in.
Is it possible with Messaging gateway with Add-on of Contect encryption?

2) Internal email antivirus protection with the Microsoft Exchange Anti-Virus Agent add-in for example.

3)Prevent spammers from sending large amounts of email to the appliance over a short time period from any single IP address.
I just need reference for this policy

4)At-least 18 daily reports that can be generated on demand and emailed to the administrator.
